Sponsor Qualifications

Qualifications

In order to provide the best atmosphere and supervision at Centrifuge, we ask that all student groups be accompanied by a adult sponsor of the same gender for every 1-5 males and 1-5 females. Adult sponsors are to be over 21 years of age and are required to live in the home area with their students. Adult sponsors are also expected to assist in the students’ camp activities. Adult sponsors should not bring children with them who are not old enough to register as students.

Duties

A key element in the success of Centrifuge is the work of your adult sponsors. We want to help you and them in any way possible. Lead your adult sponsors to spend some time in personal spiritual preparation for the week. The Centrifuge program gives sponsors an opportunity to make commitments and to renew their walk with the Lord. Help them see themselves as participants in the program and not just observers.

Participation will also require them to be committed to the responsibilities listed:

1. Help students be present and on time for all classes, activities, and worship services. Participation is not optional for students.

Check rooms prior to each event.

Encourage participation and promptness by example.

2. Help ensure a spiritual environment during worship. Explain expectations (no picture taking, no hats, etc.) during worship to students at the beginning of the week. Before worship services adult sponsors should spread throughout the auditorium and pay close attention to members of the group more likely to cause disruption.

   Model active participation in worship.

Be prepared for worship by having pen, paper, and Bible. We anticipate worship to be a means by which God will communicate with us.

3. Encourage and monitor proper dress among your own students and set a good example with your clothing (see Dress Code).

4. Enforce the 11:00 pm curfew for being in the rooms and 11:30 pm time for lights out/no noise. We know it’s hard sometimes to do this, but it will help your students get more out of camp when they are rested. Please abide by this strictly. No church has the option of altering these times. Other groups are disturbed by one group that is noisy or late. Adult sponsors who have difficulty helping enforce this guideline cause trouble for adult sponsors who are trying to do a good job.

5. Look for opportunities to talk with your students throughout the day. Be on the lookout for loners or members of your group with special needs.

6. Assist with the invitation time at the conclusion of worship services. A training time will be provided early in the week to help your adult sponsors prepare. All adult sponsors should attend this meeting!

7. Supervise room clean-up.

8. Report room damage to the appropriate individual. Any previous damage to your room should also be reported on arrival. Churches will be asked to pay for damages that occur during the week in rooms your group occupies or if a student is responsible for damage anywhere on the grounds.

9. Adult sponsors cannot participate in and must stop all shaving cream wars and water fights in dorms, in other buildings, or outside. What starts out as seemingly harmless fun often leads to retaliation that can be harmful to people and property.

10. Work with adult sponsors from other churches to help the camp run smoothly. If there is a problem, please see the Camp Director .
